Avandia

The FDA today announced that the diabetes drug Avandia is linked to tens of thousands of heart attacks. This information was initially reported by the FDA in 2007. Glaxo Smith Kline (the makers of Avandia) deny that there is any evidence linking Avandia to heart attacks. The FDA is waiting for recommendations by an advisory committee and will hear reports on the drug this summer. If you take Avandia and are concerned about this report, ask your doctor if your should continue taking this drug.
Take care,
Dr. Mary Sue

  1. In my opinion it would not be safe for patients to take Avandia in dose. It might hamper their health prospect & cause heart attack in them. So it would be better to consult their doctor first. As new drugs are invented and new chemicals synthesized, people become increasingly dependent on substances which are, quite literally, foreign. In fact chemicals in a given medicine may also have other, unintended effects. Sometimes these side effects are revealed during laboratory trials to be nothing more than minor inconveniences; other times, severe side effects are not detected - or even covered up - until thousands of unsuspecting people have been hurt. Although the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulates the safety of pharmaceuticals, it is far from perfect; the recent Baxter heparin contamination scandal demonstrates this fact.
